About the Film

Annanukku Jai (1989) was written and directed by Gangai Amaran and produced by D. Raveendran and C. Jagatha, starring Arjun and Seetha. The film was made around the same time as Gangai Amaran's other 1989 release, Karakattakkaran, a period when he was juggling direction, writing, and lyric-writing across multiple projects. Ilaiyaraaja composed the soundtrack, with most lyrics by Gangai Amaran himself, and vocals from Malaysia Vasudevan, K. S. Chithra, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Saibaba, Sundarrajan, Gangai Amaran, and Uma Ramanan. One track, "Enakkoru Magan Pirappan," is set to the Mohanam raga, giving the soundtrack a classical touch alongside its film-song arrangements. It's a lesser-known but musically rich entry in the wider catalogue of Tamil vinyl records from Ilaiyaraaja's discography.
