About the film: Alaigal Oivathillai (1981) was directed by Bharathiraja and produced by R. D. Bhaskar, marking the acting debuts of both Karthik and Radha, with Thiagarajan, Silk Smitha, and Kamala Kamesh in supporting roles. Ilaiyaraaja composed the soundtrack, with lyrics by Vairamuthu, Gangai Amaran, Panchu Arunachalam, and Ilaiyaraaja himself, and vocals from S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, S. Janaki, Jency Anthony, Guruvayoor Rajam, B. S. Sasirekha, and Ilaiyaraaja. Several tracks were built on classical ragas, and songs like "Kaadhal Oviyam" and "Aayiram Thaamarai" were later reused in other Ilaiyaraaja films, cementing this as a key entry in the Ilaiyaraaja Tamil vinyl catalogue.
